Meet me and read more about my online ballet classes for children and adults
Your invitation to join me in an online ballet lesson…..
My teacher at the Royal Ballet School used to say ‘all you need to practise your ballet is a space to stand up in’.
How right she was!
Before the Covid pandemic, we wouldn’t have dreamed of teaching a ballet class online. That couldn’t possibly work… could it?
But during lockdowns we teachers dusted off our desktop computers, adapted our teaching methods and embraced technology, to offer a socially-distanced way of delivering ballet classes ballet online.
We kept the nation dancing!
And, even though dance studios are now fully open, there is still a place for the online ballet class.
I can work with you on a one-to-one basis or in a small group - wherever you are in the world - at a time that is convenient for you, and help you or your children discover your inner dancer.
My online classes ‘from my home to yours’ are interactive, allowing for feedback and discussion, and all the exercises are set to carefully chosen classically arranged music.
All you need to get started is a small space to move in, a chair to use as a barre and the Zoom app installed on your device.
Let’s get DANCING!
I started ballet classes at the age of 4 but realised by the time I was 14 that my heart lay in teaching, rather than performing. I studied ballet at the Arts Educational Schools (Tring Park) and the Royal Ballet School, where I graduated with Distinction from the 3 year Teachers’ Training Course. I stayed on to work at the Royal Ballet School for 2 years, as Assistant to the Director of the Teachers’ Training Course.
Whilst training I was never the best dancer in the class, but worked hard, learning how to work to the maximum of my physical limitations. I realised that I had a natural ability to connect with younger dancers and I began to feel more confident in front of a class than as a participant within a class - ballet became my life and teaching ballet became my passion! Through my training I gained a thorough understanding of the demands, requirements and physicality of classical ballet technique, as well as a deep connection with the artistry, emotion and musicality of this most beautiful of art forms.
Since leaving the Royal Ballet School I have taught ballet for schools in New Zealand and England, and in 2003 I founded the Birnam Arts Ballet School in Perthshire, Scotland, where I teach to this day. I am a Registered Teacher for the Royal Academy of Dance, regularly entering pupils for examinations and Class Awards, and I am a member of the Teacher Training Fellowship of the Royal Ballet School.
I have helped hundreds of recreational and vocational dancers explore the benefits and joy of dance through classical ballet - and I look forward to inspiring you in the same way!
A quick ‘hello’ from me!
