Frequently asked questions

FAQs

Q: Is Zoom easy to use?

A: Yes! Once you have the Zoom app installed on your device you can simply click the meeting link I send to enter the virtual ‘waiting room’. At the time of your class you will be admitted to the meeting, where you will be able to see and hear me. You will need to make sure your camera and microphone are ‘on’ before entering the meeting.

Q: Do I need any equipment for my ballet class?

A: Older children (age 7 upwards) and Adults may need to use a chair with a back as a ‘barre’ (something light enough to move around easily) - you may also need a mat or towel for floor work. You don’t need a huge space - just enough to stand and extend your legs and arms in all directions. All obstacles and trip hazards (including pets!) should be removed before class.

Q: What type of device works best?

A: A larger screen works best (eg laptop or tablet) but phones can work, too. You can even connect your device or use screen mirroring to a TV for a better view! Ideally, place your device at eye level, at sufficient distance that I can see you from head to toe. If this isn’t possible you can move your device during the lesson to allow me to see different angles of your work.

Q: What length of class do you recommend?

A: I recommend :

30 minutes for age 5-6

45 minutes for age 7-8

60 minutes for children over the age of 9 and Adults

Q: Is there an age limit for your classes?

In order to benefit most from the class I recommend that children are aged 5 and over. There is no upper age limit - dance is for life!

Q: How much are your sessions?

A: My online ballet sessions are priced as follows:

I hour - £25.00

45 minutes - £20.00

30 minutes - £15.00

All first sessions include a free 10-15 minute ‘meet and greet’ session before the class starts, to check set-up and settings etc.

Q: What should I wear?

A: Comfy leggings or shorts and a t shirt with thick socks or bare feet (depending on your floor covering) are absolutely fine. If you would like to invest in ballet wear (leotard/ tights/ shoes etc) I can advise on this.

Q: Are you qualified to teach ballet?

A: Yes, I gained my teaching qualifications from the 3 year Teacher’s Training Course at the Royal Ballet School. I am a registered teacher for the Royal Academy of Dance (current registration certificate available to view on request) and comply with their Code of Conduct and Code of Professional Practise, engaging in annual Continuing Professional Development and Safeguarding training. You can see my listing on the RAD’s ‘Find a Teacher’ facility by searching for ‘Emma Teresa Gray’.

Q: Do you offer group classes?

My online ballet sessions are designed to be one-to-one or small groups (eg siblings/ friends) by appointment , but I do teach an regular online ‘Ballet for Wellbeing’ group class on Monday mornings, 10.30am-11.30am, in conjunction with Birnam Arts Ballet School.

If you would like to arrange a group session with a few friends or colleagues, please contact me to discuss the options.
